If you are planning a move to a new home, you are not alone. Approximately 40 million people move each year according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Reasons for changing your place of residence range from downsizing to needing extra space for a growing family to moving closer to aging parents or grandchildren for family support. Whatever your reasons are, moving is challenging. Check out the tips below to help guide you through this next life journey…
#1Create A Schedule And Stick To It
With all of the activities associated with moving, it’s a good idea to make a list to stay organized and on track. You’ll be glad you did when you get to the end of your checklist.
#2Your Moving Checklist
Items to include: defrost and clean out your refrigerator, schedule movers, have your utilities turned off and/or transferred, forward your mail, and have plenty of packing materials on-hand.
Moving is the perfect time to toss or donate unused items. You’ll have less to pack and will get a fresh start too.
Ask your friends and family for boxes or purchase them from your local grocery, bookstore, or large retail outlet.
Designate specific colors to label boxes for your kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, and bedrooms.
A great way to move clothes is to keep them on their hangers and enclose them in large garment boxes or plastic bags. You can also use tie wraps to help keep the hangers together.
#7Nuts And Bolts
If you have furniture to re-assemble, store small loose items in labeled plastic bags.
Unplugging can be intimidating. Take pictures so you know what cords go where, and you’ll be back to being plugged in with ease.
Be sure to include your new internet and entertainment provider on your checklist, and have them scheduled to go live after you move in.
#10Take A Moment
Moving is one of life’s biggest changes, so give yourself a minute to reflect, and get ready to enjoy the future in your new home.
